Arizona summers are no joke. With triple-digit temperatures, intense UV rays, and relentless dry heat, staying fresh requires extra effort—and that goes double for your eyelash extensions! Extreme heat, facial sweat, facial sunscreen, and pool days can all test the durability of your lash adhesive.
Here is a practical guide to keeping your eyelash extensions looking full, fluffy, and flawless all summer long.
1. Watch Out for Facial Sweat and Natural Oils
While cyanoacrylate (the main ingredient in lash extension adhesive) cures quickly, excess moisture combined with natural facial oils can break down the bond over time.
- The Fix: Blot sweat gently around your forehead and eyes during outdoor activity or workouts. Don’t let sweat pool around the eye area, as the salt content and facial sebum accelerate shedding.
2. Switch to Lash-Safe, Oil-Free Sunscreen
Sunscreen is mandatory under the Arizona sun, but oil-based facial sunscreens are one of the biggest culprits behind premature lash shedding.
- The Fix: Apply an oil-free, mineral-based sunscreen on your face. Keep sunscreen application at least an inch away from your lash line, and set your eye area with an oil-absorbing setting powder to create a barrier against natural oil migration.
3. Rinse After Swimming (Pools & Saltwater)
Chlorine from backyard pools and ocean salt can dry out lash fibers and weaken the adhesive bond if allowed to sit on your lashes.
- The Fix: Always give your lashes a gentle rinse with fresh water or lash cleanser immediately after swimming. Gently pat (never rub!) dry with a lint-free towel or micro-fiber cloth, then spoolie them back into shape.
4. Beware of Direct Heat Blasts
Direct, intense heat can actually singe synthetic lash fibers or cause them to lose their curl. Common desert culprits include:
- Opening a blazing hot oven door
- Standing too close to an outdoor grill or fire pit
- Leaning over hot car interiors before letting the A/C blow out the hot air
