How to Keep Your Lash Extensions During Arizona’s Summer

Summertime in Arizona is no joke. Between triple-digit temperatures that melt our makeup and the sudden, dramatic humidity of monsoon season, our beauty routines have to work twice as hard.

If you are rocking a gorgeous set from Professional Eyelash Extensions by Sandy, you already know how amazing it is to wake up looking effortlessly put together—no runny mascara in sight! But extreme heat and moisture are the ultimate tests for lash adhesive.

To help you protect your investment, I’ve put together the ultimate desert survival guide for your lashes. With a few quick adjustments to your routine, you can keep your extensions full, fluffy, and flawless all summer long.

1. Keep Your Cool (Literally) for the First 48 Hours

While modern, high-quality lash adhesives cure much faster than they used to, the first 48 hours after your appointment are still critical.

  • The Problem: Extreme heat and heavy steam can cause “shock curing.” This is when the adhesive hardens too quickly, making the bond brittle and causing your extensions to pop off prematurely.
  • The Fix: Try to schedule your lash fills on days when you can hang out in the AC afterward. Avoid intense outdoor workouts, hot yoga, saunas, or standing directly over a boiling pot of water right after your appointment.

2. Fight the Oil Slick

When the Arizona heat spikes, our skin produces extra sebum (natural oils) and sweat.

Lash Fact: Oil is the number one enemy of lash adhesive. It slowly breaks down the chemical bond, leading to major shedding.

  • Blot Frequently: Keep oil-absorbing sheets in your purse to dab away excess shine on your eyelids and forehead before it slips down into your lash line.
  • Check Your Skincare: Switch to oil-free moisturizers and gel-based sunscreens during the summer. If you use a heavy eye cream at night, apply it sparingly and keep it well away from your upper lash line.

3. Don’t Skip the Cleanser

A common mistake clients make when it’s humid or dusty is avoiding washing their lashes because they are afraid of losing them. During monsoon season, the exact opposite is true! Dust storms (haboobs) fill the air with fine sand and allergens that get trapped in your lash line.

  • Wash Daily: Use a dedicated, lash-safe foam cleanser every single night. It removes sweat, salt from your tears, oil, and desert dust.
  • Rinse After Swimming: Love hitting the pool to escape the heat? Chlorine and saltwater will degrade your lash bond over time. Keep a bottle of fresh water in your beach bag to thoroughly rinse your lashes immediately after getting out of the pool.

4. Brush Gently, and Only When Dry

Monsoon humidity means your lashes might hold onto moisture a bit longer than usual.

  • The Golden Rule: Never brush your extensions while they are wet. Wet lashes are heavy, and brushing them can pull on the natural hair follicle.
  • The Summer Routine: After washing your face or swimming, gently pat your eyes dry with a lint-free towel or paper towel. Let them air dry completely, or use a portable fan on a cool setting. Once they are dry, use your clean spoolie brush to fluff them back out.

5. Stay On Schedule with Your Fills

In the winter, you might be able to stretch your lash fills to three weeks. In the peak of an Arizona summer, your body’s metabolism actually speeds up, which can cause your natural lashes to shed a bit faster.

Pair faster shedding with sweat and humidity, and your lashes will need a little extra love. Booking your fills every 2 to 2.5 weeks ensures we can clean away any stubborn oils and replace any loose extensions before your set starts looking sparse.
