Hey there, gorgeous! ✨
Summer is here in full force—bringing pool days, sun-soaked adventures, and, of course, heat, sweat, and sunscreen. While we love everything that summer has to offer, your eyelash extensions? Not so much.
As a lash technician, one of the most common questions I get this time of year is: “How can I make my lash extensions last in the summer heat?” The good news is—yes, they absolutely can last, and I’m here to spill all my best tips to help you keep that flawless, fluttery look all summer long.
1. Keep Them Clean (Yes, Even in the Summer!)
Sweat, sunscreen, and excess oil are major culprits in breaking down the adhesive bond of your lash extensions. Use an oil-free lash cleanser daily to gently remove any buildup. Think of it like brushing your teeth—you wouldn’t skip that, right? Same energy for your lashes.
2. Avoid Excessive Heat Exposure
Summer = sun, but too much heat can weaken your lash glue. That means avoiding direct heat like opening a hot oven, steaming your face, or sticking your lashes right up to a campfire (you know who you are!). And no, sweating on the dance floor at summer weddings doesn’t count—but do try to blot gently afterward.
3. Use Oil-Free Sunscreens
Sunscreen is non-negotiable in summer, but make sure you’re using one that’s oil-free. Oils can break down the adhesive faster, leading to early lash fallout. Apply sunscreen carefully, and avoid rubbing around the eyes too much.
4. Stay on Top of Fills
With all the swimming, sweating, and fun in the sun, you might notice your lashes shedding a little faster than usual. Don’t wait too long between fills—schedule your touch-ups every 2 to 3 weeks to keep them looking full and fresh.
5. Skip the Pool (If You Can Help It)
Chlorine and salt water can be tough on lashes. If you’re going full mermaid mode, rinse your face with fresh water right after swimming and gently pat your lashes dry. Better yet, wear a wide-brimmed hat and chic sunnies to limit splash exposure.
6. Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes
This one’s a year-round rule, but especially important during allergy season and hot days when everything seems to itch. Blot, don’t rub! And keep a mini fan handy for those super-hot days to dry sweat without smearing.
