In Arizona, our skin and hair aren’t the only things that feel the shift between the “Dry Heat” of summer and the “Crisp Chill” of winter. If you’ve noticed your eyelash extensions behaving differently in July than they do in January, you aren’t imagining it!
Your lash adhesive is a bit like a Goldilocks—it needs conditions to be just right to create that perfect, long-lasting bond. Here is why the Arizona seasons play a huge role in your lash retention and what you can do to stay flawless year-round.
The Winter Struggle: Low Humidity & “The Big Dry”
During the Arizona winter, our humidity levels often drop into the single digits. While we love the break from the heat, your lash adhesive might not.
- Slow Curing: Professional lash adhesive requires a certain amount of moisture in the air to “cure” (harden) properly. In extreme dry spells, the glue stays wet longer, which can lead to lashes leaning or sticking together.
- Brittle Natural Lashes: Just like the hair on your head, your natural lashes can become dry and brittle in the winter. Dry lashes don’t provide as strong a grip for the extension, leading to premature “popping” off.
- Static & Friction: We wear more sweaters and scarves in the winter. Constant friction from high collars or pulling a hoodie over your head can snag extensions and tug them out before their time.
Winter Pro-Tip: Use a high-quality lash serum to keep your natural lashes hydrated and healthy from the root.
The Summer Challenge: The Heat Dome & Humidity Spikes
When the triple digits hit in the West Valley, a new set of challenges arrives for your lashes.
- Sweat and Sebum: As the temperature rises, our bodies produce more sweat and natural oils (sebum). Oil is the ultimate enemy of lash adhesive—it breaks down the bond, causing extensions to slide right off.
- The “Flash Cure”: During the Monsoon season, humidity actually spikes. If it’s too humid, the glue cures too fast (flash curing), which can result in a brittle bond that doesn’t wrap around the natural lash securely.
- Sunscreen & Setting Sprays: We’re all lathering on the SPF (as we should!), but many sunscreens are oil-based. If that mist or cream migrates to your lash line, your retention will take a hit.
Summer Pro-Tip: Switch to an oil-free, lash-safe foaming cleanser and use it daily. Removing sweat and sunscreen buildup is the #1 way to save your summer lashes.
Year-Round Retention Secrets
Regardless of whether it’s 60°F or 115°F outside, these two rules never change:
- Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse: Using a lash-specific cleanser removes the salts from sweat and the dust from our desert winds.
- Hands Off: Avoid touching or picking at your lashes. The oils from your fingertips are consistent, no matter the season!

The Good News?
At our Glendale studio, we constantly monitor the indoor humidity and temperature to ensure our environment is optimized for the best possible bond, regardless of what the Arizona weather is doing outside.
